Mary Jane's Book Club: Naked
"We laid our Econolodge bedspreads over the dewy grass of the cemetery, smoking joints and trying to imagine a life without our mother. If there was a heaven, we probably shouldn't expect to find her there. Neither did she deserve to roam the fiery tar pits of hell, surrounded for all eternity by the same shitheads who brought us strip malls and theme restaurants. There must exist some middle ground, a place where one is tortured on a daily basis but still allowed a few moments of pleasure, taken wherever one could find it.

Mary Jane's Book Club: American Wife
"This was 1968, and my grandmother had announced to me one afternoon that she'd like to try marijuana; she was hearing a lot about it. I hadn't previously tried pot myself, and without enthusiasm, I'd approached Dena when she was next in town - as a stewardess, she could fly free into Milwaukee, then come to visit me in Madison or go home to Riley - and the time after that, when my parents were at a fish fry, the three of us sat in my grandmother's bedroom, smoking a joint. 'While I'm having trouble seeing what all the fuss is about,' my grandmother said, 'I'm very grateful to you girls for satisfying my curiosity.' When the joint was gone, she lit a normal cigarette."

Mary Jane's Book Club: Running with Scissors
"Whereas pot either made Natalie contemplative or silly, for me it provided a kaleidoscope view of everything that was wrong with me. I could feel it opening all the windows in my head, giving me a panoramic view of my flaws."

Some photos that I've "saved image as" over the week. I love this cool, artsy take on rolling a blunt. Proves that anything can be damn beautiful.
Does everyone have Halloween plans? Mine thus far involves smoking fantastic weed - I have yet to fill in the blanks.

Keep Calm
Remember this one I posted last week? Here's another one! I read the story behind this "Keep Calm and Carry On" business (via my best friend Wikipedia), and it's actually a little disturbing. If Nazis invaded, calm would be the last thing I would use to describe myself. It wouldn't even be a top 100 descriptor.
